Hi everyone + welcome! Thanks for stopping by! I'm Jessica, you can call me Jess. I am a painter, creator and avid list maker. Painting and drawing have always been my favorite things to do. One of the things I love most when I'm painting is noticing what feelings come up in the moment. Most of the time there's a mixture of joy tangled with uncertainty. Being sensitive to my emotions inspires me to pick up my paintbrush and begin again.
Here are my (emotionally inspired) Top 10 reasons of why I paint. I hope they inspire you too:-)
I invite you stay and take a look around. While you're here, sign up for my newsletter. I also post current photos of new paintings and works in progress daily on Instagram. You can follow me @jessteporaart.
Finally, I'd be happy to hear from you too. If you have any questions or would simply like to share your inspirations, I'd love to hear! Please email me at [email protected]
I hope my art stirs up any inkling inside you to create (no matter how small); gets you excited about what you do (if you aren't already); and makes your day brighter:-)
Here are my (emotionally inspired) Top 10 reasons of why I paint. I hope they inspire you too:-)
- I feel the most brave: Painting pushes me to take leaps. A familiar gesture, whether it be a brush stroke or a simple pencil line, is a leap on my canvas, no matter how small.
- Curiosity: Oftentimes I finish a painting only to feel eager to start a new one. Painting encourages me to never stop learning and explore all that interests me.
- Spontaneity: I'm very organized so approaching the canvas openly adds balance to my creative process.
- Freedom: I remind myself often that the surface I'm painting on is a space free of discouragement and a moment to enjoy.
- Uncertainty: This is one of my biggest influences that I've learned to embrace. My doubts have taught me to trust the subtle shifts materializing in my work and accepting where it will take me next.
- My heart opens: Always.
- Playfulness: Life has its responsibilities and serious moments, painting allows me to let all that go and have fun.
- I am the most present: Painting brings me back to the moment that I'm now in. I feel everything, I hear every thought passing by; but through it all I stay centered and keep working.
- New eyes: Wherever I am, my creative heart opens my eyes to notice the beauty around me. I can create + explore anywhere.
- Honor: Painting gives me the courage to be myself, be true to me and do what I love.

Artist Statement
Enter a celestial universe. An immersion into an imaginary new world formed by shape, color, and line. As a painter, I have always used art to transport myself into alternate worlds and I would like to invite you to travel there with me in this current series.
To make the paintings, I use acrylic paint, collaged paper, and pencil. The themes of the moon, space, and time are constant throughout these paintings. I am interested in how my art can transport us to a world of calm, harmony and beauty. I am inspired by the idea of infinite space and seek solitude in the expansive space where water meets sky. No wonder I found my home upon a tiny Island within the vast Pacific.
This body of work is intended to share with you that sense of limitless curiosity. I invite you to enter a world where deep wells of good energy are plentiful. This body of work serves as a vessel, a rocketship, our very own personal portal into a new reality where infinite possibilities open up before us. Here in this new universe, we have infinite power to create beauty together and make our best selves visible.

Artist Biography
Jessica (Jess) Tepora is an artist and active member of her community in Maui, Hawaii, where she co-founded a Yoga studio in 2010. Born and raised near New York City, Jess graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2003 with a BFA in fine arts focusing on painting and printmaking. Following her BFA, Jess gained insight into many facets of the art world by working as an artist assistant for Aleksandra Mir and a gallery assistant for PS122 Art Gallery in NYC's East Village, and as staff at the Guggenheim Museum and the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan.
As a first-generation Filipino-American artist, and avid traveler, Jess draws upon her experiences both at home and abroad when creating her work. Her painting style draws on her printmaking experience as well as her studies in textiles and pattern design. Following her formal art education, Jess traveled the world - spending time in Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. Her life took a wonderful turn when she became a certified Bikram Yoga teacher and moved to Maui to co-found the Bikram Yoga Lahaina Studio with her older brother.
Fast forward to 2020 with the onset of the global pandemic, Jess found herself at a new crossroads. After operating the Bikram Yoga Lahaina studio and building a yoga community on Maui’s west side for over a decade, the global pandemic caused her to pause operations. Within this pause Jess recognized the opportunity for a turning point - a return to the art world. Jess is dedicated to developing her portfolio, committed to the work, and in hot pursuit of her career as a full-time artist. Jess’s current body of work focuses on imagined dreamscapes and celestial portals. Jess is available for licensing opportunities, collaborations and commissions.
