“When you start working, everybody is in your studio- the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas- all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you are lucky, even you leave.”
-John Cage My favorite moment when I begin painting is the light. I love natural light - the way it brightens the paper giving life to my pencil lines. My main medium is watercolors. I love the way water and paint move together - the colors formed from the layered paints; the elements of brush stroke, transparency and water overlapping one another. The lotus flower and heart are the subjects of my paintings. Recently, I've been inspired by the different shapes of the Chakra symbols. In particular, the inverted triangle of the Root Chakra. I love how this shape suggests the flow of energy. From funneling the energy down to the tip, the sides of the triangle redirects the energy up. The tip of the triangle is where spiritual awakening begins; then expanding into a higher level of consciousness. The watercolors posted on this entry are my latest pieces. My interest in adding new shapes and using different colors to my paintings gives way to new designs and compositions.
