Gray is my favorite neutral color. It is the color of compromise; the shift between black and white. Gray calms other colors - softening the vibrant and lightening the dark.
When I think of the color gray, I picture - clouds, elephants, stones and wool coats. Gray makes me feel solid and secure. I love the darker tones of charcoal and smoke the most. The names - deep cavern, gray gull, lava stone and pebble - remind me of the Black Sand Beach on Maui. This achromatic color makes me feel calm and collected. I love the color brown. It is the color of the earth. When I think of the color brown, I picture a few things - chocolate, coffee beans, cinnamon and pretzels. This natural color reminds me of the fall and winter seasons - the feelings of comfort, warmth and companionship.

I see green every day. Green reminds me of apple banana trees, avocados, olives and papayas. After a rainy winter I love looking up at the West Maui Mountains. The hillsides are a lush dark green and filled with life.
This week I had the pleasure to go to the park. I observed my surroundings with my eyes closed. I breathed in the smell of fresh-cut grass; I felt the warm breeze circle around me; I listened to the birds and the wind. When I opened my eyes, the vividness of the green grass surprised me. I love the color purple, it's my favorite color. Purple reminds me of grape jelly on a peanut butter sandwich, my heart-shaped amethyst stone, lilac trees and orchids. I love noticing purple around me - the intricate designs on an orchid petal, an acai berry smoothie, a blossoming Jacaranda tree and taro frozen yogurt. One of my most fondest memory I have of the color yellow is a field of canola flowers. I was traveling through Australia at the time. The scenery was beautiful. As far as I can see, the row of flowers extended into the horizon. This bright yellow flower filled the open space. When I looked across the meadow, the millions of flowers amazed me. I thought - how could they all be so yellow? I remember feeling happy. At that moment, my worries and uncertainty of where I was going faded away.

We see color every day. The farmers market is one of my favorite spots for an eyeful of color. I love looking at the brightly colored display of fruits and vegetables - apple greens, cherry red tomatoes, eggplant purples, leafy spinach greens and lemon yellows. The oranges are my favorite.
