"How did it get so late so soon?" -Dr. Seuss
We're halfway through the year! Can you believe it?
I love the month of June, not only for the longer and warmer days but also for finding the balance between leisure and work. This week I had time to think about the last six months - my recent accomplishments, anniversaries and goals. I looked at my 2015 project/goal list and checked off all that I accomplished. I felt inspired to keep going. I updated my current list and I can't wait to start on several new projects for the rest of the year.
Although time is unrelenting and life is ceaseless with its responsibilities, every moment in our day welcomes a new possibility. For the rest of the year, remember to enjoy every moment and make the best of every day.
"Aaah, summer - that long anticipated stretch of lazy, lingering days, free of responsibility and rife with possibility. It's a time to hunt for insects, master handstands, practice swimming strokes, conquer trees, explore nooks and crannies, and make new friends." -Darell Hammond
Today is the first day of summer. I can feel it in the air - the long days, the sunshine, the warmth. To mark this day, I thought it would be fun to list my top 21 favorite things I love about Summer:-)
Yellow: |ˈyelō| noun. the color of ripe lemons or egg yolks; the primary color between green and orange in the visible spectrum, an effect of light with a wavelength between 570 and 590 nm.
One of my most fondest memory I have of the color yellow is a field of canola flowers. I was traveling through Australia at the time. The scenery was beautiful. As far as I can see, the row of flowers extended into the horizon. This bright yellow flower filled the open space. When I looked across the meadow, the millions of flowers amazed me. I thought - how could they all be so yellow? I remember feeling happy. At that moment, my worries and uncertainty of where I was going faded away.
"It's only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you discover to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character."
I love sketchbooks. I recently found an untouched sketchbook in one of my storage boxes. I immediately thought - what will I fill it up with?
Sketchbooks are where I like to jot down the random, unexpected idea. They give me immense freedom to explore and discover invaluable concepts for my next painting. Sketchbooks are also great for inspiration. Oftentimes, I refer to old sketchbooks for encouragement. They are a visual diary of my observations, thoughts and curiosities.
Above all, sketchbooks are fun. There are no rules to the blank page. I love the freedom to play - to make a mark and see where it will take me.
